Shining Cuckoo

In 2012 Friends of Oakley Creek held a special event to say “Haere mai” to pīpīwharauroa, the shining cuckoo—and to welcome spring. It was a family day with songs, games, talks, walks, dances, artwork and other activities with a cuckoo theme.

Kennedy Warne asked me to draw a riroriro nest and pīpīwharauroa – these illustrations were used in a variety of ways to promote the festivities, and provide inspiration for creative activities relating to the shining cuckoo and the grey warblers.

And since this initial project we have worked together to make a beautiful picture book
